What a notary can — and does — charge.

Virginia law sets a maximum fee for the notarial act itself. Everything beyond that — travel, appointment length, and document handling — is confirmed with you before your visit is booked, never added as a surprise afterward.

ServiceFeeNotes
Notarial act (acknowledgment, jurat, affidavit, etc.) $10.00 max Per signature notarized — the maximum set by Virginia law (Code of Virginia § 47.1-19–20)
Mobile / travel fee Confirmed at booking Based on distance and time of day — quoted before you confirm your appointment
Real estate / loan signing appointment Confirmed at booking Flat appointment fee for a full closing package, quoted when you request the signing
Apostille / authentication assistance Confirmed at booking Depends on document type and processing timeline
After-hours / short-notice requests Confirmed at booking Evening, weekend, and same-day requests welcome — ask when you book
Why some fees say "confirmed at booking": only the notarial act itself has a fee set by state law. Travel time, appointment length, and document complexity vary by request, so those are quoted to you directly — by phone, text, or through the booking form — before anything is scheduled. Payment is arranged directly with James River Premier Notary; nothing is charged through this website.
